QUESTIONS ABOUT REGISTERING FOR YOUR FIRST TOURNAMENT?

Q: Are all tournaments the same format?

A: No. There are a wide variety of formats such as round robin, rotating partners, or round robin set partners, double elimination, etc. etc. Read the Tournament description for information!

Q. Do I need a partner to register?

A. Depends on the Tournament. If it is “set partner” format, often you can still register for a “Find a Partner” option.

Q. What are all the different “divisions” or “categories”?

A. Often, tournaments offer AGE and SKILL LEVEL options. If it is set partner format, then the older partner would need to register in the younger partner’s age category. The skill categories are based on you (and your partner’s in a set partner format) skill level. Some tournaments in Canada use CTPR ratings, some use DUPR ratings, some use self rating. You will not have a CTPR rating if you have never played in a tournament before.

Q. So what Skill level am I?

A. If you have to self rate, then please search online for several different ways to assess your own skill level. Please remember that CONSISTENCY is the key when self rating - don’t choose a level just because you can execute the shot. You must be able to consistenly execute those particular shots every time you play.

Q: What happens after I register?

A: You will get a confirmation of your registration. Closer to the date of any tournament, you will likely receive emails about scheduling and details about location, etc. Keep an eye on the Tournament’s website, or social media site, for updates as well!
